Clinical Supervision & Consultation for Therapists in MAssachusetts

Contact Us Today

We see supervision and consultation as essential parts of therapy. We believe in receiving and providing these services to enhance the work we do on behalf of our patients, support our colleagues, and promote the advancement of the social work profession.

We have adopted the NASW definition of supervision: “the relationship between supervisor and supervisee in which the responsibility and accountability for the development of competence, demeanor, and ethical practice take place. The supervisor is responsible for providing direction to the supervisee, who applies social work theory, standardized knowledge, skills, competency, and applicable ethical content in the practice setting. The supervisor and the supervisee both share responsibility for carrying out their role in this collaborative process” (Best Practice Standards in Social Work Supervision, 2013).

We practice the supervisory-matrix-centered approach, a type of psychodynamic supervision that includes an examination of the relationship between supervisor and supervisee. In this model, there is an emphasis on exploring parallel process in addition to counter-transference material that arises in the supervisee’s relationship with their patients.

We distinguish supervision from consultation based on the license of the colleague seeking our services. If our colleague possesses their own independent clinical license, we consider this consultation. If our colleague is pre-license or holds a provisional license, we consider this supervision.
